Amazing Arizona
Off to Goodyear, Arizona to visit with our dear friends, Vern and Connie. We left the below freezing weather in Virginia for the warmer climate in Arizona.
We started our AZ adventure by playing golf at Falcon Dunes, the golf course located at Luke Air Force Base. By the way, I made a birdie.

Just to have time to spend with good friends is a blessing. To have a wonderful home cooked meal in their beautiful home was one of our fondest memories.
Debbie joined us for a visit
The Clark's hosted a golf tournament at Wigwam golf resort for many of their friends and neighbors. Dave and I were glad we were among the invited.
One of the most majestic of all places to visit is Sedona, Arizona. I wish I had the ability to put on paper the feeling you get when you first see the towering mountains and rock formations of the red rocks. The sight is both breathtaking and overwhelming. I think God especially enjoyed creating this area.
We went on the ultimate 4x4 experience. The Pink Jeep tour we went on was the Broken Arrow. We went on a 45 degree angle up and down mountain terrain, over boulders, rode on sharp narrow dirt and stone roads. We also got out of the jeep, tried to regain the use of our wobbly legs and walked on rock formations.
Our Pink Jeep tour guide, Dan, was extremely informative about the formation of rock and the passion everyone in the area shares for the preservation of the natural life in Sedona. He shared interesting tales of living in the area and even told us about the javelina or peccary or skunk pig. If you want to read more about the javelina, there is a child's book, Don't call me a Pig, A Javelina Story by Conrad J. Storad.
Our dining experience in Sedona was truly wonderful and I highly recommend L'auberge de Sedona Restaurant. The restaurant is nestled between the side of a mountain and a swift flowing mountain stream. The food was beyond expectation as was the accommodating wait staff.
A special treat was a short visit with Vern and Connie's sons, daughters-in-loves, and two of their four grandchildren.

Our thoughts of a bad economy dissipated when we went to the 40th Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Az. We witnessed a car that went to a "lucky" bidder for a mere $400,000.00.

Vern is standing by an ambulance that is reported to have transported President John F. Kennedy after he was assassinated. The ambulance met Air Force One at Andrews Air Force base to Bethesda and later to the White House.
Meet Sophie, a rescue dog. Dana and Cindy are Vern and Connie's neighbors in AZ. This was the first walk Sophie had with her new owner. Sophie had spent her entire 2 1/2 year long life on a chain. Her owner had brought her to the animal shelter to have her euthanized because he had too many dogs. Sophie lets you know she really loves people, in spite of her previous life. Everyone knows Sophie will now be living the life she deserves because of Dana and Cindy.
We hope you get a chance to build some great memories in Arizona just as we did!
