Surprises Along The Way
As a child I can always remember my mother saying, “When you look for the little surprises in life it can help you get through each day.” Now a mother myself I know what she meant. Although motherhood can be wonderful, it can often be less than glamorous especially when you are faced with the routine tasks of life like laundry, dishes, runny noses and potty breaks. I’ll admit that I can easily lose sight of how much I really do matter to my family. On one particular afternoon my husband was outside with our children while I was inside preparing dinner. I couldn’t help but feel a little resentful that I couldn’t be a part of the “fun.” It seems like too often I’m a part of the “work.” As I was cooking, I heard the door swing open and in walked my son. He was sweaty and dirty from playing in the yard. “Mommy this is for you,” he said as he handed me a purple flower (actually a weed) that he had picked outside. “I know you love flowers Mommy,” he said as he slammed the door shut again. His little surprise for me interrupted my uneventful day and reminded me of the difference we as moms can and do make in the lives of our family.
