If You're Missing Baby Jesus
One of my favorite stories to read with our family each Christmas is a little book called, If You're Missing Baby Jesus, by Jean Gietzen. No matter how familiar I am with each detail of the story, every time I read it tears flow and I get a lump in my throat as I try to make it through the powerfully convicting truths found on each page.
The story begins as a family unpacks their new nativity set that has one Joseph, one Mary, three wise men, three shepherds, two lambs, a donkey, a cow, an angel -- and TWO baby Jesus figurines. The mother sends her children back to the store to ask the manager to place a sign on the remaining manger scene boxes that reads, "If you're missing Baby Jesus, call 7162." As the story unfolds, the family is forever changed as they give of themselves and their belongings to total strangers with needs much greater than their own. Their tiny faith followed by action is compelling.
This month, my husband, children and I will be sharing the reading of this special book with dear family friends, while we sip hot chocolate enjoying the peace that knowing Jesus can bring.
If your life is full of strife and your circumstances are leaving you feeling empty this holiday season, there is hope! Don't call "7162," like the family in the book. If you are missing Baby Jesus, this Christmas, call on the One who created you and knows you completely. Call on the one who made atonement and redemption for you. He promises to hear you when you call, and He will answer!
