Modest Disney Princesses
If you are blessed with daughters, you have already or will at some point encounter the “Princess” stage. (Although I wonder if we as women ever really outgrow the desire to be a beloved Princess!) I’ve always been the kind of mother that seeks to strike a balance and not throw the “baby out with the bath water” with every modern-day challenge that comes our way.
Four out of my six daughters are thick into princesses right now, so my husband Brad and I have bought them coloring books featuring Disney princesses. I honestly did not think much of it at first; but because we have frequently addressed the issue of modesty to our children, my daughters became sensitive to the lack of adequate clothing to cover two of their favorite princesses. I prayed for wisdom and instead of throwing the coloring pages away, we decided to “dress” these lovely ladies appropriately. I let the girls color over all the body parts that were too revealing or simply exposed. It worked great!
So, the next time you are challenged with modern-day dolls or princesses that lack discretion in revealing too much, just be a wise mother and cover them up! Also, take the time to explain that your truly beautiful young Christian daughter is not for sale . . . therefore she is not to be advertised as such!
Happy Parenting your little princesses!
