A Circus Party
What is more exciting than a circus? A party with a circus theme.
Our grandson’s birthday always falls during the week of the big circus that comes to town each year. This past year we capitalized on that theme and had a “Big Top” party—even though the circus is no longer in a huge tent.
To get party-goers in the circus mood, we draped plastic tablecloths over the frontporch. My husband had the clown nose and glasses and welcomed each guest into the Big Top.
Lots of balloons and stuffed animals carried out the theme indoors. Each child received a hang-around-the neck monkey ($1 store buy) as a take-home gift from the party. The $1 stores also yielded inexpensive clown figurines to add to the circus theme—that went home with each child.
Mini-corndogs, in-the-shell peanuts, chips, cherry tomatoes (mini-balloons), crunchy carrots, cheese curls, boxes of animal crackers, and festive birthday cake were featured foods.
My daughter designed a “Feed-the-elephant” game where the children tossed peanuts into the elephant’s mouth.
After the presents, but before the energy ran out, the party moved to the circus arena downtown for the climax of the party. An elephant ride for all the children was a hit (although a bit pricey).
For minimal expense and effort, the birthday child had an unforgettable birthday.
