Dave and DeeDee in Dallas!
Our recent travels took us to Weatherford, Texas to visit our dear friends, Margi and Phil Craighead.
Of course, if we are visiting friends in Texas the first thing they had to show us was the largest column-free interior domed arena in the world, the home of the Dallas Cowboys football team. The arena was completed in 2009 and seats 80,000 fans, making it the third largest stadium in the NFL by seating capacity.
The retractable roofed arena features a pair of 300 feet arches that span the length of the dome and are anchored to the ground at each end. The stadium includes more than 3,000 Sony LCD displays throughout the luxury suites, concourses and concessions areas offering fans the opportunity to view the action of the field from many different areas. There is a center-hung video display that is the largest high-definition television screen in the world; it measures, 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall (11,520 square feet).
If the Statue of Liberty were placed in the center of the arena, it would not touch the top!
The cost to build the arena was $1.4 billion dollars, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built.
Yes, we even got to tour the Cowboys locker room as well as the Dallas Cheerleader locker room. The VIP tour of the arena was very impressive.
Stay tuned for more of our Texas travels.
