Oh the Comfort of Friendship
Recently a friend (whom I now and will always consider a rare, true friend) confronted me about a particular sin in my life. “Confronted” seems too harsh of a word. She humbly, and in trepidation, dared to speak truth into my life, not knowing my ensuing reaction. She was willing to “lose” our relationship for what she felt was important.
As we sipped coffee in the privacy of her comfortable living room, she gently questioned me. She spoke truth to me. Her loving disposition and humility allowed me to be transparent . . . allowed me to tearfully confess my sin. No judgment. No condemnation. Just truth. The result? My healing began! My sin was exposed in the light of Christ . . . in the safety of a Godly friendship. Satan’s wicked schemes stood defeated at that moment.
King Solomon wisely declared in Proverb 17:17, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother (sister) is born for adversity.” (NAS) (my emphasis)
I will forever be grateful to my friend. She dared. She decided. She did . . . speak God’s Life into my life.
George Eliot’s poetic phrases perfectly reflect my heart for my dear friend.
Oh, the comfort,
The inexpressible comfort
Of feeling safe with a person,
Having neither to weigh thoughts
Nor measure words,
But to pour them all out - Just as they are,
Chaff and grain together,
Knowing that a faithful hand
Will take and sift them,
Keep what is worth keeping,
And, then, with the breath of kindness,
Blow the rest away.
Friendships…a rare breed…cultured and modeled by our amazing Savior, Jesus…our best Friend forever!
