Hope For The HopelessProverbs 13:12a “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick” (KJV)
Life without hope would be to experience death while yet alive; the death of a dream, an opportunity. Without hope, darkness fills your soul and emptiness takes over your life.
One feels there is no reason to go on. All seems lost. It casts a dark shadow over any good that still exists. It becomes all-consuming. It can make one feel a sense of loss without a chance of recovery. The death of hope then becomes your life until you are living in a void, taking up space in the span of time God has given you to live.
One never considers how precious a gift hope is until they feel they have lost it. In truth it is not lost, it has been stolen. A thief has come in during those dark times of your life and stolen hope, and in turn, planted a lie.
Hopelessness causes one to feel the light has gone out in their life with no chance of it returning. One is left in utter darkness, or in a gray haze that never seems to lift. To stay in the state of hopelessness can lead to suicide, feeling there is no reason to go on. We know this is of Satan. It is time to stand up and fight.
Romans 15:4 b “that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (KJV)
Hope brings possibilities. It looks for miracles. It brings light to those dark places in our lives. Hope sparks anticipation for that which we desire. It intensifies our faith in our God and in His Word as we wait for the fulfillment of that which we have prayed for.
1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (KJV)
Hope in itself is God given, but we must remember that we may not always get what we hope for. In truth, it is best if we do not get that thing we want if it is not in God’s will. By denying us certain things, He in essence is showing us mercy, for God knows the beginning from the end, and He knows some things can hurt us, and can be a detriment to our Christian growth.
We need always to seek God first concerning our desires and pray accordingly, for then the God of hope will fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (from Romans 15:13 KJV)
PSALMS 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord” (KJV)
Hope is an ongoing action. It goes hand in hand with patience, for everything we hope for will not come quickly. We need to trust God, pray the Word, and continue the good fight.
Hope springs eternal; the flame must not be extinguished.
