Missions Trip to North Dakota
Our travel took us back to Ellendale, North Dakota, population 1,400 .
I can hear you asking, "Why"?
Our church (Glad Tidings Church, located in Norfolk, Virginia) goes each year on a one-week mission building trip. We had the privilege of working, once again, on projects for Trinity Bible College located in Ellendale, ND.
Forty hard working people traveled together on mission: men and women from various backgrounds with contractors, electricians, plumbers, highly skilled as well as unskilled labor. We even had a retired Admiral go with us. Ages started at fourteen years old and went up to seventy five years of age. That brought our average up to forty nine, a first for our missions team. This allowed for a great deal of mentoring to occur, with mighty men and women of faith speaking truth into the lives of younger people.
The group logged in 2,030 of man hours worked, and work we did.
Our work assignments included:
Davidson Hall, built in 1907, which is being reclaimed. Once in total disrepair, new life is being breathed into this magnificent structure.
An extensive amount of drywall had to be put in place. Sixteen rooms on the third floor, and 8 rooms of drywall on the second floor.
The electrical team drilled over 3,000 holes in ceiling joists and installed thousands of feet of electrical wiring.
President's Home, built in 1922, which was used as the President's home when the North Dakota State University was the first to be on campus in Ellendale. This home had fallen into much disarray and Trinity Bible College is restoring it to its original grandeur.
One side of the home had settled severely, the house was jacked up and the foundation was repaired.
The kitchen was gutted and rebuilt. The entire interior of the second floor of the home was also gutted and rebuilt and studding put in for a Master bedroom with Master Bath.
Work was also accomplished on the second floor of an existing home in preparation for the arrival of a family returning from the Mission field that will live in the home and work on campus.
Five LONG halls and trim of door facings in dorms were painted. An extremely large recreation room was brightened up with a coat of paint. The paint team's crowning glory was printing a one story home first with the primer then painting it once again with the final coat. Thanks to a piece of equipment that allowed several ladies to paint at the same time and reach all the peaks, we accomplished our goal. The whole painting team autographed one unpainted remaining peak, which we left on purpose to reflect this verse:
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me (Isaiah 49:16)
Special treat, the rodeo was in town!
We were able to accomplish the vast amount of work that was done with the assistance of Jim Shroll, Project Manager for Advancement for Trinity Bible College.
We were also extremely well-fed thanks to Ms. Bobbie Voris.
Trinity Bible College is making vast amounts of progress under the leadership of its New President Dr. Paul Alexander and his lovely wife, Carol.
Our dear friends, Roland and Judy Dudley were instrumental in connecting us with Trinity Bible College. Roland and Judy live and work on the campus.
We were blessed to have two of our sons, Rob and Dave, Rob's wife Diane and two of their children Megan and Matthew on the Mission trip.
One more Mission trip completed-----Ready for the next!!!!
Some things we learned on our Mission trip;
- When we pray like it depends on God and work like it depends on us, anything is possible.
- Prayer doesn't change circumstances, more importantly it changes US.
- Together we are BETTER.
- Love enlarges our lives. Love creates the desire to serve those we work with. Love inspires our teammates to grow and become their BEST.
- We were STANDING ON HOLY GROUND. We sang this song every morning as a group after devotions.
- The way through demanding days is to grip His hand tightly and stay in close communication with Him
- It would be nice if Ms. Bobbie could be with us on ALL of our Mission Trips
- WE ARE KEEPERS OF THE VISION.
