Ruth Van de Riet

Ruth Van de Riet - www.myfriendDebbie.com     Having been born in New York City, Ruth never dreamed of moving to the South. All that changed when she met a southern gentleman named Jim. Within months, the initial attraction grew into a deep loving relationship, Jim popped the question and they were married the following year. Ruth loved being the mother of their three children and was blessed to have been able to be an at-home mom. As the children grew, Ruth found herself involved in a variety of activities. In particular, volunteering in the Virginia Beach, VA schools her children attended was especially rewarding because it represented a host of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of many children over the years. Her desire to serve the Lord in the church community of Glad Tidings Church enabled Ruth to minister in intercessory prayer, hospital visitation, evangelism, leadership training, Bible teaching, children's choir directing, counseling, pulpit ministry, and singing with her husband Jim. After many years of volunteering, God began to move Ruth's heart toward receiving a formal education. When her youngest child was in high school, Ruth began working towards a four-year degree in Social Work. Ruth graduated Magna Cum Laude and was accepted into the advanced placement Social Work Master's program. Governor George Allen bestowed the honor on Ruth of an appointment to the Board of Social Work. She also was privileged to serve on the Discipline and Regulatory Standards Committee for the American Association of State Social Work Boards and the Eastern Virginia Perinatal Council. Currently, Ruth is employed as a social worker at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation.

Although the children are grown and on their own, Ruth and her husband, Jim, always have time for their two grandsons, ages 5 and 3. Family has always been an important part of Ruth and Jim's lives. Over the past 10 years, Ruth has felt a special calling to minister to families through the heart of women. She will not only share her heart and her love for God's Word, but will bring an inspirational perspective to encourage you in your life's journey.
