The Romans Road to Heaven
The world is such a crazy, scary and unstable place to live. We are surrounded by murder, theft, hate, immorality, depression and so much more. Can you imagine living in the midst of all this chaos with a joy and a peace that even the most depressing circumstances can not stifle? Imagine knowing that regardless of the horrible world we currently call home, you can spend eternity in a city where the streets are made of gold, the sea shines of crystal, the gates are made of pearl, and sorrow, frowns and tears don't even exist. Seems too good to be true, huh? With Jesus, you can have that joy, peace and a sense of security that matches that of NOTHING on Earth.
We learn from the Bible that all who believe on the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ and trust Him as their Savior get to spend eternity in Heaven with Him! (Romans 10:13)
Wouldn't you love to know Jesus as your friend? To have an eternal home with Him in Heaven? You can and it's so simple. Let me show you straight from the Bible how you can know for sure that you have a home in Heaven.
Let's look at the book of Romans. The Bible tells us that the first thing we must do is recognize that we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 confirms this by saying, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. I am a sinner, my Sunday School teacher
is a sinner - even my preacher is a sinner. There is no one who is good enough to make it to Heaven without Jesus. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10) So first, we know we're not perfect like God and that, by nature,
we're sinners.
Second, we must recognize that there must be a payment for our sin. Romans 6:23a (the first half of the verse) says this: “For the wages of sin is death…” When the Bible talks about death in this verse, it's not talking about a momentary dying of the human body. It's talking about a death that will last for all eternity - it will never end. When our earthly bodies die, we are sentenced to life or death. Life is spent in a perfect, sinless city - Heaven. Death is spent in a wretched, desolate lake of fire - Hell. Romans 5:12 shows that because of our sin, death is passed onto us: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. So, second, we learned that because of our sin, we deserve to be sentenced to spend eternity in Hell.
The third thing to recognize is the glorious promise of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Although we know we deserve Hell for our sins, we don't have to pay that debt.
Someone has already paid it for us! “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Furthermore, as we learned in Romans 6:23a that the payment for our sin is death, the rest of the verse teaches us SPACE that we don't have to pay it. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” So, thirdly, we learned that Jesus died to pay our sin debt.
There is one last thing to know in order to secure your home in Heaven: and it is simply this: All you have to do to receive God's gift of eternal life is ask and receive. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Whosoever means anyone, regardless of what you've done, where you've been or where you've come from. When Jesus was hanging on the cross with the purpose of paying our sin debt, He knew He was taking the burden of every sin ever committed. He was not choosing which sins were worthy of His death. He wasn't thinking, “I'll die for liars, but not murderers or thieves.” He died for all sins! If you will receive Him, He will save you. In fact, He's sitting in Heaven right now, watching you read this, on the edge of His seat just waiting for the moment when you'll soften your heart and ask Him to come live inside you. And the Bible says the way to do that is to simply ask from your heart: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10) So the fourth and final thing we learned is that in order to be saved, we need only ask.
With salvation as simple and as close as this, why not receive God's free gift today? He wants to be your friend.
Here's a simple prayer you can recite right where you're sitting that will let God know that you accept His gift and would like an eternal home in Heaven.
"Dear Jesus,
I know I'm a sinner and I know that I deserve Hell for my sin. But, I trust You now, Jesus, and You alone to save me and take me to Heaven when I die.
Thank you for saving me.
In Your Name,
Amen”
As we learned in Romans 10:9-10, speaking the words does not save you, but believing the words in your heart does.
